May 5, 2013 Cinco De Mayo!
We visited a fantastic ward in Santa Ana this morning. They were so sweet and welcoming. Owen colored on the wall with crayon during Sacrament meeting, and we had him apologize to the Bishop (since we couldnt get it off very well). The Bishop was so forgiving and sweet and talked to us for a while! We may have to come back to this ward every time we are close by.
We headed over to Disneyland later that afternoon for a few more memories. We didn't know it was Goth day at Disneyland, so that was fun. The kids couldn't really tell the difference between the Goth folks and the Disney employees dressed up for the Haunted Mansion, so that worked out well.
This Disney trip has been so perfect because we don't have diapers to contend with or naps (although we probably should), and all 4 kids can go on almost every ride! That is huge! AND - the big news this year is that Miles is choosing to try out some of the Roller Coaster type rides (he has always been too afraid of them in the past). AND HE LIKES THEM! In past years it hasnt really mattered if Miles sits out on a Coaster because not many other siblings can go on them, but not this year If he sat out, even his 3 year old sister would out ride him. His two new favorite rides are Space Mountain (a high speed thrilling coaster in the dark) and California Screamin' (the name alone should tell you it's pretty intense, and it goes upside down). Who Knew? He still prefers to steer clear of The Tower of Terror (a spooky elvator ride that throws you up and down and then opens the doors to over look the entire park), and Indiana Jones (a bumpy jeep ride in the dark with spooky snakes, boulders etc...). This is has been so fun!
The other BIG NEWS is that Ella can go on almost every ride (barely
making the 40 inch height requirement). 40 inches gets you onto some
big ones. We knew she had a love for Roller Coasters the other day when
we couldn't get her out of Mickey's Toon Town off of the Go Gadget
Coaster, BUT who knew she would be a freak for coasters. WE figures out
that she could go on Space Mountain (the super fast one in the dark).
We were a little unsure about how she would do. She sat next to mom,
and since you can't see well on that ride, all mom heard during the ride
were sounds of "whooo hoooo" and giggling. Then dad sat next to her
and he laughed so hard because she had her hands up in the air the
ENTIRE time. Notice her hands up in the picture below, you can barely see her face but her crazy hair sticks out sitting next to Dad. She's 3! We are in trouble.
Owen was the hand slapping champion (the game we played while waiting in some of the longer lines like Space Mountain - see the picture below of Dad's red hands.
The other ride we all came to love this trip was Star Tours! You feel like you are in a hyper speed space ship with C3P0 and R2D2. All 6 of us ride it and love it.
We
stayed till close tonight (11pm). At the very end we got to see the
tribute to Abraham Lincoln! It was so inpiring and amazing. Seeing
what these imagineers can do with animatronics. Plus it was so
rewarding to hear Miles make some big connections after the performance
between what Abe had to deal with in his time and what Moroni was
dealing with in the chapters we had read the night before (the Kingmen
dissenting etc...). Also we discussed the actual period of time when
Walt Disney brought this Abe Lincoln attraction to the world, at the
World's Fair of 1964. Miles again made the connection of that time
period to the Civil Rights movement. There have been so many of these
types of 'discussions' and connections this trip. We say we are on our
"spring break", but are you ever really "off school". Not in this
family!
