Pay is 5 years old!

Pay wanted a "Golden Plates" cake for his birthday. We got the idea to do a Book of Mormon heroes theme party. All of his buddies dressed up and had a blast. Pay dressed up like Samuel the Lamanite (he is a good guy - Payton wants to make sure everyone knows that). We had a couple of Nephi's and Ammaons, Helaman, a stripling warrior, captain Moroni...you name it. There were swords and cross bows and Liahonas.....

Every kid got a little bag of "Gold and Silver and Precious" things. (Full of random gold coins, rocks, and dots candy).

Here it is - the Golden Plates Cake (made by Dad). Delicios white cake with raspberry filling and homemade fondant icing.

Here is Payton's friend Qwynn (dressed as his hero 'Ammon')

Playing games:
Each kid got to "engrave" on plates as they came in (paper plates covered in Aluminum - they used paper clips to engrave - not an easy task).
Then we played "capture the title of liberty flag"
Then we found the lost 116 pages of the Book of Mormon (colored sticky notes stuck everywhere) and whoever got the most stickies won a prize)
All of the kids followed a picture scavenger hunt to find the buried golden plates. (some gold shiny card stock hole punched and held together with a few silver rings)
Then we played "get the crown off of wicked King Noah" - where Jeremy dressed up like King Noah and then the kids basically attacked him.
While we waited for parents to come pick up the kids we played Nephite, Nephite, Lamanite (aka Duck Duck Goose). and "Wilderness / Jerusalem (aka Red Light Green Light)
We wanted to play these games but didn't have time:
"Hold to the Rod" - follow a rope while blindfolded and have to overcome obstacles
Save Abinidi from the fire (not sure how that was going to work)
Tie up Nephi (maybe with Toilet Paper)
Get the Gadiantons

Still taking pictures each year on their birthday in the brown recliner (not sure how many more years this chair will last)

Grandma and Grandpa always take each grandkid out to dinner and shopping on their birthday. They get to pick out anything that they want. They look forward to it every year.

  1. Only in Utah! What did Janelle say about that one? That is a darling idea though! What a kid-I can't believe he is that old already. We need to get together soon! Holly asked me the other day where Jeff has been-she hadn't seen him for a while. I guess she didn't put 2 and 2 together when we explained things in September. That was so sad to me! Our kids loved him so much too! How is everyone holding up? We miss you guys-
